Inside the town there is nothing but soot, brick and cog. Outside the town there is nothing but war. The crows say so – they blanket the roofs, shouting bloody news from across the sea down to the streets below. The people no longer even notice they are afraid.
The Boy with Nails for Eyes is a fantasy comic set in a town where the crows speak, the chimneys spew smoke and the wheels turn day and night. Great machines stride across the horizon.
This is a story about three children of that town. Donald, whose world is tooth and shadow. Possessed by terror, he feeds dead animals to the dark under the streets. Then there is Mary, self-contained and adrift since her mother disappeared, hiding from fate in childish games. And Bobby, who is going mad.
Bobby has the same dream every night, a dream that calls him out of bed. It calls him to the abandoned bunker at the centre of town. It has plans for him.
There is another war, inside the town.
